Living and working in Brazil: Is it worth it?
Living in Brazil is the dream of many. Living in Brazil is a beautiful experience that many people want to do sooner or later. Often the idea of living in Brazil comes after an exploratory trip to the country, perhaps for tourism. Many remain fascinated by the country and its people and for this reason they decide to move to Brazil. For many, living in Brazil will also mean working in Brazil; for others it will mean enjoying retirement in Brazil or working remotely. But the most important question of all remains the following: Is it worth living and or working in Brazil?
There are many aspects to consider before deciding to move to Brazil and from our direct experience they are perhaps particularly more important in Brazil than in other South American nations. If you really want to move to live and work in Brazil then check these indications carefully:
Living in Brazil: Brazilian society and crime
A condition to be satisfied once you decide to move to live in Brazil is to understand its social dynamics. The continent country has approximately 213 million inhabitants, a mix of all possible races. Brazil remains in the direct experience of those who have known all the countries of Latin America, the country with the greatest social hardship and social inequality on the Latin continent American. What is seen in the large cities of Brazil is not seen in the large cities of most other Latin American countries. The clear social inequality is appreciated in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza and all the large cities of Brazil. Afro-descendants are the ethnic category that suffers most from this inequality, the historical legacy of slavery and colonial policies of past centuries. Drugs in Brazil are highly consumed. This is a key factor that makes Brazil a microcosm, which differs greatly from the typical low percentage of drug users in Latin America. Brazil remains the only country with real crack lands on the outskirts and not just of the big cities. It will not be difficult to notice people injecting drugs on street corners or who are totally confused due to crack. Fentanyl is quite widespread. In June 2024, the country completely liberalized the use of marijuana at a federal level, so there are no longer any crimes related to the possession and use of the plant. Brazil is the second largest consumer of cocaine in America after the USA. Society remains fragmented, especially in highly populated areas and where competition and social disparities are becoming more acute. In Rio de Janeiro, even profound cultural characteristics of doing little and getting tired as little as possible make it very difficult for a foreign entrepreneur to do business in terms of work. Forget about the industriousness and speed of the Mexicans, on the contrary in Brazil everything will be slow and confusing. Sao Paulo deserves a special case, where there is an industriousness comparable to that of Mexico City, so much so that Sao Paulo is also considered the city par excellence where to move if you are a foreigner and dedicated to work, business, business or to seek advantageous career opportunities. Sao Paulo itself also remains far less violent than smaller cities.
Taxes in Brazil
Brazil launched a tax reform in July 2024 that projects it to be the country with the highest taxes in the world. With a VAT of 27.1 and taxes on purchases above 30%, Brazil surpasses another country known for high taxation, such as Colombia. Objectively speaking, the Lula government achieved victory over a reform hostile to the entrepreneurial and private class of the country which already experiences high taxation and inflation, impoverishing the purchasing power of Brazilians. With this financial maneuver, Brazil becomes the country with the highest taxes in the world. An excellent reason for countries like Panama, Paraguay, and others on the continent to quickly distance themselves from this trend and easily capture the fleeing and foreign capital that if they once thought of investing in Brazil now have 27.1 times the incentive not to do so and divert to countries safe for the capitalist such as Panama and Paraguay. At StudioPanamaitalia we have been working with Brazilian clients for years and for years we have dedicated ourselves to opening offshore companies for Brazilians, to opening offshore bank accounts for Brazilians and allowing Brazilians to take up tax residency in Panama or to move to Panama altogether on their own or with your own family. For Brazilians who want to take up residence in Panama or transfer capital or invest capital in Panama or for Brazilians who open online businesses and want to legally avoid 100% taxes, they can contact us to start quick and remote operations that allow everyone to protect your capital from Brazilian taxes.
